Made by American Optical. Number 286 hardened Weld-Cool Plate. These are designed to protect welders against harmful ultraviolet and infrared radiation and to provide increased visibility of the welding operation. Provides visible light transmission in the blue region of the spectrum and absorbs the yellow flare associated with certain welding processes. Has a gold coating. Interesting filter to experiment with and could possibly be used as a glass beamsplitter. Unused in original package.
These have no shade indicator on the packing and one of our customers from a welding company advises that they should not be used for welding by themselves as the actual shade number is not high enough. He believes they were designed to be used in conjunction another plate. The description we used is directly from the plate's container. |
