FluxOptic™ Assemble it into Variable Focal Length Lenses & Mirrors

$79.00 USD
Product Code: FLXO1001
Availability: In Stock

Finally after lots of challenges, production of our patented FluxOptic™ device is complete.  This exclusive unique optical tool with liquid center will allow you to do all kinds of experiments as well as specific tasks.  Assemble it into an adjustable  lens or mirror with a wide focal length range without grinding and polishing.  Clear optical diameter is 74mm (almost 3 inches).  Assembly is 4-1/4" diameter by about 3" thick. You can use it over and over in different forms.

Here's who can benefit from our unique exclusive FluxOptic™ device:

Educators and students:

Hands on experimenting with lenses and mirrors in a very different way.

Access mechanical and other skills by assembling and testing the device

Explore what happens as you change the lens and mirror curves

Demonstrate refractive and reflective telescopes with included parts

Opportunity to get creative with optics.

One FluxOptic™ does it all and lots more!

Businesses:

See how lenses and mirrors may work with your projects by being able to vary the focal lengths from flat to strong positive and back thru flat to strong negative.

Hobbyists:

All of the above fuels your rewarding hobbies and provides Fun with Optics.

Here’s what you can make it into:

Double convex or double concave lens variable from strong positive thru flat to strong negative

Plano convex/concave lens variable from strong positive thru flat to strong negative

Can have same curve on both sides (equi/bi) or different curves on each side.

Make it into a variable focal length mirror from strong positive thru flat to strong negative.

The uses and educational benefits are endless.  Great tool for hands on student use in classroom or for home schooling.  In addition to optics education there may be opportunity to include some structural mechanics, fluid dynamics, membrane strain, and maybe even bubble analysis.  Great for the Physics teacher.  Great for an optics workshop (could have several, all set up differently).

Excellent opportunity for creativity.

Here’s how it works:

The FluxOptic is a variable volume container the ends of which will have your choice of included flexible membranes (discs) attached.  The device is filled with water (or other fluid with a different index of refraction such as glycerin if you prefer).  As its inner sleeve is turned into the outer sleeve pressure against the membranes cause positive curves and as the inner sleeve is turned outward the membranes gradually become flat and then negative.

The curves are spherical and quite good as o-rings are used on the top and bottom of the discs so they flex very well.  If you want to experiment, you can leave the top o-ring off and the disc will not flex well around the edges and create a non-spherical curve.

This can truly be Fun With Optics as well as a very valuable educational tool not to mention the enormous practical uses.  Also great for home schooling.

Some practical, fun and educational uses:

Variable power magnifier positive and negative.

Variable power objective for basic reflecting and refracting telescopes

Use the lens with variable long focal length to project image on the wall

Lens for Camera Obscura and other projection

Make a plano convex lens with a long focal length for large image projection to a wall or screen

Run multiple laser pointers thru it.

Use the included laser pointer to see the laser beam.
Color mixing

Demonstrate how the human eye lens works

Demonstrate reflection and refraction

Demonstrate the different types of lenses and mirrors

Use included light or other light source for variable distance projection

Get the optional eye chart to use with your FluxOptic to see if maybe you need glasses

Get 2 and use a different index fluid in each (you can change the index of refraction of water by adding salt or sugar) or use other fluids such as glycerin and note the difference in focal lengths.
